Bob Coffield - Health Care Law Blog

Bob Coffield, an attorney specializing in health care law, is the proprietor of the Health Care Law Blog. (Those of you paying close attention will notice that between the URL and the name  — the words are reversed. It’s the right address).

This is an excellent blog - but of the posts I’ve read so far, Coffield is a big-picture/systems guy, and very thoughtful. He’s asking good questions about health care policy and risk - and I didn’t see a single post that presupposed any legal knowledge. Haven’t yet had time to go through old posts to see if he’s followed issues of mass casualty incidents/disaster treatment, but I’m subscribing to his feed, and will try to keep an eye out.

The New CCCP - Comedy Central Candidates Programming Network

According to Juliet Lapidos, writing on Slate, Viacom may be violating the law by airing Colbert’s showComedy Central while he is running for President.

Maybe Viacom plans to offer Biden, Clinton, Dodd, Edwards, Giuliani, Huckabee, Kucinich, McCain, Obama, Paul, Richardson, Romney, Thompson, Gore, and other official candidates 20 minutes per night. And I believe that would be a good thing. Maybe they should set up the Comedy Central Candidates Programming network, CCCP-net - All the Candidates - All the Time. Like CSPAN but without the dry boring policy wonk stuff. After all, it is a media circus. It’s not about policy, or national security, its about shameless self-promotion, money, access, and who you are persuaded you would want to have a beer with.

We are choosing a pop-star for President. Too bad Paris and Brittney are under 35 and can’t run.

Who would Jefferson, Madison, and Washington Vote For?

Ernest Abbott and FEMA Law Associates

As our  blogroll has grown, I’ve been increasingly concerned that it isn’t  particularly useful as a research tool. So I’m going to try to write short introductions as we add links to the roll. While the posts won’t stay up - they’ll still be searchable via the archives.

Ernest B. Abbott is a former General Counsel at FEMA, and is the leader of a specialized practice called FEMA Law Associates.

From the firm’s website:

FEMA Law Associates provides legal and regulatory consulting services to help those who are eligible for FEMA assistance understand and navigate FEMA’s processes successfully. Key client groups that benefit most from the services of FEMA Law Associates are:

  • Government entities, public authorities, and such non-profit organizations as utilities, hospitals, and educational institutions that are eligible for FEMA assistance programs.

  • Vendors providing services funded directly or indirectly by FEMA programs.

  • Insurance companies participating in FEMA’s National Flood Insurance Program through the Write-Your-Own Arrangement.
  • Associations representing companies and institutions that are eligible for assistance under FEMA programs and are affected by FEMA’s regulatory and legislative initiatives.
  • Law firms and other service providers requiring specialized legal and regulatory advice on FEMA matters.

The set of attorneys with repeated experience dealing with FEMA is probably very small - since by definition FEMA dealings are often the result of unusual events - i.e. disasters.
