Our current experiments – let’s call it “play” – suggest that the ease of use of LEGO makes it pretty suitable for rapid modeling of geographic (natural) and human-made (artifiicial) environments. We had suspected that modeling underground features would be very problematic – and have since learned that transparent and translucent pieces are available, including the baseplates which are often used as a foundation for larger LEGO constructions.
We’re still stumbling through this, so we’re particularly interested in suggestions for more good LEGO resources.

Brickwiki. A big searchable network of people who buy and sell LEGO pieces.
Bricklink Buying Guide is well worth reading. It’s on a blog called
Mechatonic/Building and Destroying:
Mechatonic is a blog dedicated to the Mechaton
game written by Vincent Baker.
Mechaton is the game of giant fighty robots. In short, you build little mechs out of Lego and then blow them to bits. It’s a simple, fun, rewarding game.
